to sleep, perchance to dream.

have been experiencing some raging insomnia this past week - I'm chalking it up to work-related anxiety (more on that soon). It's a small form of torture to lay awake until past 2am, wasting all that golden sleepytime from your 12-hour-overnight daughter!

In desperation, I went out on a limb and did something totally out of character - I downloaded a guided meditation ap. Always something I had deemed too hippy-dippy, and scoffed at the idea of. I have to put my hand up and admit I was wrong, as it has really helped! (Hmm having flashbacks to the time this sceptical Suzie tried acupuncture).

I am also back on the no-caffeine-after-4pm bandwagon, and limiting myself to two coffees per day. No screen time before bed, a herbal tea and a good book all seem to be helping.

Even if I weren't somewhat terrified by the idea of conventional sleeping tablets, there's no way I could take anything remotely soporific when I'm the only one home at night with E!

So far, it's on the improve. Fingers crossed I'm back to "deeeep sleeeep, riiiight through the niiiight" very soon.

I'm sure I'm not alone in suffering sporadic bouts of insomnia - any words of wisdom or helpful tips to try?
xoxo

  1. Yes! I'm usually a good sleeper and also have a baby who sleeps 8pm until 6 or 7am - so have every opportunity to sleep. But, every now and then i'll have a week or so of insomnia ( has happened once in the 5 months since having the baby). Bath, glass of wine a good book and trying to remain optimistic that the insomnia is temporary are the only things i do.

  2. Oh insomnia is the worst! Have you tried a sleep mask? I find on nights where my brain won't shut up that if I can't see any light whatsoever it's easier to shut off.

  3. I have been told to try medidation apps as well but like you for the same reason I still haven't tried. Hope you get some sleep. A nice cup of tea always helps the sleep time ritual.
