of all sad words of tongue and pen, the saddest three are "might have been"...

Its been one of those days today, unfortunately. Where everything seems to go wrong, when everyone seems to be out to get you and upset you. Not a nice day. The lowlight for me was the much-anticipated lunch event that never happened. The plan for today had included partaking of the 6-course lunch special at Marque restaurant with a group of my colleagues - and much to my great sorrow, work commitments got in the way and I had to eat lunch sitting at my desk (thinking wistfully all the while of my friends enjoying their delicious lunch). *le sigh*

To add insult to injury, I had dressed especially for the occasion in a new dress and my favourite heels (and despite how much I adore these stockings, wearing them in Sydney heat today was no joke!). All dressed up an no place to go. At least I could draw some consolation from the fact that my office is air-conditioned, and I was dressed nicely  - that's always a comfort.

I made V take these pictures of me when I got home - I wasn't going to waste my nice outfit! Plus it cheered me up.

My lovely, lovely mum bought this dress for me this week (along with numerous items of sleepwear) from the Peter Alexander outlet store in Sydney - the dress is actually daywear, I am not wearing my nightie in public!

The dress is a really lovely shade of peach sorbet, which my modest little digital camera doesn't really do justice to.

I just adore these Forever New stockings! It was sweltering hot today, but they just MADE the outfit, so I suffered and wore them, and it was totally worth it.

new years eve...

We spent new years eve at a local beachside restaurant, with cocktails, bubbles and canapes, followed by a two-course meal. There was live music, fireworks, and a DJ later in the night.

The plans for tonight - so excited!

Best seat in the house! Not quite sure how we managed it, but somehow we ended up sitting right at the edge of the balcony seating area, with an unimpeded view of the water. So beautiful.

Some canapes - pacific oyster with chilli ruby red grapefruit salsa, and citrus cured salmon in a wonton basket with salsa verde.

We had unlimited drinks - beer, champagne, mimosas and something delicious involving prosecco and cassis.

Fairy lights and balloons.

Confit duck salad with beetroot, fennel, watercress and goats cheese with an orange glaze dressing.

V found a beer with the same name as his surname, and was very excited. I tried a French 75 cocktail - gin, champagne and lemon juice, refreshing and tangy.

Trying a Chinadoll cocktail - kiwifruit, lychee, mint, vodka, grand marnier and lychee liquer. Had to try this because the husband said I look like a chinadoll tonight. It was very delicious.

christmas day...

Christmas day - such a lovely day! Plenty of good food and wine, and fun times with family and friends.

Beautiful, beautiful gift from my husband - sterling silver key necklace from Kerry Rocks in Paddington. It looks just like an antique archive key and makes me feel like Mary from the Secret Garden.

Mmmm pink Moet - I think all Christmas drinks should be pink and bubbly, don't you agree?

Best. Gift. Ever. Way to keep the husband intrigued and irritated by turns.

My sister embarking on the mammoth task of un-moulding the mangomisu (mango tiramisu) she has created.

Clearly operation mangomisu was a raging success - sooooo yummy.
