birthday dinner...

Tonight, V and I went out with my parents and my younger brother, in a belated birthday celebration!

We headed out to Caveau, a French restaurant, and my first pick for fine dining in the area

Caveau is my all-time favourite Wollongong restaurant - it is the only "hatted" restaurant in the area, and it is truly deserving of that honour. I actually think its better than a great many Sydney restaurants! It is owned and run by Peter Sheppard, the ex-sous chef of the legendary Banc restaurant, and his wife Nicole runs front of house with charm and aplomb. The atmosphere is second to none, the service absolutely impeccable. And the food is truly to-die-for.

Rodarte for Target nude tulle dress
Mimco magazine clutch
Tony Bianco "Foxie" heels

We started off with a glass of Kir Royale - champagne with cassis, mmm

Complimentary starter - a demi-tasse of potato and leek soup

Charcuterie plate with mushrooms a'la greque and toasted brioche

Shallot tarte tartin with warm goats cheese fondant, beetroot puree and a pear and hazelnut salad

Roasted pheasant breast with game beignet and a sautee of chestnuts, pancetta, brussel sprouts and braised pheasant leg

Possibly the BEST risotto ever - winter truffle risotto with roasted winter vegetables and shaved fresh truffle, and a free range poached egg

Grain fed beef eye fillet with potato galette, snails, spinach, herb butter and red wine jus

Apple and vanilla pain perdu with apple parfait, green apple sorbet and muscat syrup

Warm 100% Venezuelan Valrhona chocolate mousse with salted chocolate caramels and vanilla ice cream

We drank a delicious French Savignon Blanc and a Chateauneuf du Pape. The whole meal was fantastic - 11/10 (to quote the lovely FauxFuchsia)

Happy Saturday!
xoxo

Thanks for sharing (in this case, virtually - next time you need to do doggie bags for your blog readers ;).
I think brioche should be served with every meal.
What a lovely series of celebratory dinners you've had.
