small bites on a monday morning...

I am sitting here enjoying the rain, and a cup of T2 vanilla tea, while the small one naps, taking the opportunity for a quick blogging update!

Feel like we may have finally cracked the sleep thing - even if she does move around the cot during naptime like a crazy thang! Having her able to self settle was so so so important to us - I feel like the ability to sleep is a life skill we have to be taught, nothing something innate, and I wanted to give her that for herself for the future, the fact that it's good for me too is a huge bonus heh

Someone's learning to sit herself up! And is remarkably pleased with herself every time she manages it

(Ishk I sometimes feel I am running out of meaningful content - I desperately don't want to fall into a "mummy blogger" category, but wow it's hard sometimes to find other things to write about when I'm with her so often! Would there be interest in "mummy" type posts? I should do a Q&A post, not that I know much of anything hahahaha)

V headed off at sparrowfart for work on a project this morning - he has recently been head hunted for a supervisor role with the industry leader, which is extremely exciting for him (but sadly travel is again involved). This time he is only 2 hours away from home, and it's a short project, so not too bad.
We farewelled him with southern chicken burgers and wine at our local.

Speaking of rain - much as I am loving that autumn finally has arrived - I'm going to miss my mornings in the sun with this girl!

And coffee, always coffee haha

Now that several of the bubbas in my mums group are mobile we are having to explore new venue options - in a few months time I am imagining a handful of extremely mobile babies climbing the walls inside whilst it's rainy and drear eek!

In super exciting news, my little brother returned from his placement in Sweden at the weekend (and he brought Moomins yay!) He has started his obstetric rotation this week which is pretty cool - cannot believe he's nearly finished a medical degree! So so proud.

Here's to a good week, may it be kind to you, and may your babies (if you have them) grant you lots of sleep
xoxo

  1. Those Southern chicken burgers sound delicious!
Mobile babies definitely mean meeting venues need to be carefully considered for future ... I'm so looking forward to having a portable newborn for a little while again (when the whirlwind toddler is at kindy).

  2. Sorry I never comment any more but I'm loving your content - it's very meaningful IMO.

I completely agree about self-settling being a life skill. It's part of jobs as parents to raise our children to survive in the world without us.

  3. So you sleep trained your child? You taught her to sleep? How ?

    1. You train dogs, you don't train children 😉 I can do a post on what has worked for us if you like? First and foremost, putting her down in her cot drowsy but awake wherever possible, doesn't always work, and we day naps are still hit and miss - but at night she goes into bed awake, snuggles her favorite blanket over her face, and rolls over to sleep x

  4. I love the mummy posts ... probably because our little one is due in 10 weeks! I'm hoping for a lovely mothers group because I'm the first of my friends to have a baby.

    2. Yeah I'm piggybacking this comment because I want to say exactly the same thing.
E is adorable, I love reading about her.
What you said about self settling was really interesting. There's so much that comes with babies that I would never even think about.

  6. I really like mummy posts too but that maybe cause I'm a soon to be mummy. It's fantastic that little E now self settles. I hope we can manage to get our bubbas to do that too.

  7. We felt exactly the same about sleep with our baby and really encouraged self settling from the beginning. I know every little one is different but we have a brilliant little sleeper now and I refuse to believe that is pure luck.

No complaints here. Your blog (I have been reading for a couple of years) has always been little snippets of life, and now it involves a small one it's only natural that she would become a part of it.

  8. Love love love this post. I couldn't agree more re: sleep. We did Gift of Sleep with our E and she picked it up so quickly! It would appear that our bub could self settle, I must have been getting in the way! You're a brilliant mummy.

  9. Hello
Evelyn is getting to be so big - she's gorgeous!
It's been a while since I've caught up on your blog - well any blog really - and just wanted to say hi and see how you are :)
I'm in NZ at the moment - travelled Air NZ and loved their service. Best airline ever.
    Keep well x

  10. I have read your blog for as long as I can remember. Not a mother or mother-to-be-myself (or even trying) and I thoroughly enough all and any post.

Regarding the importance of self-settle, I had never thought of it as a 'life skill' before. After a quick reflection, I believe this is so true.

Best wishes as the bub becomes more mobile!!! And, keep posting at any opportunity.

  11. Love the posts Cate keep them coming-- as someone newly pregnant in the super scary first trimester, would love to know how you handled it. The whole eating out, what to eat, the hysteria that has me in fear of eating out. Does it all go away in the second trimester? It's a scary time as I'm excited yet I feel that I"m scared by so many 'what ifs' that I have no time to be excited. No one talks about the first trimester and I'm sure it's the hardest for everyone as we adjust to this huge change. You seem to handle everything with so much grace and fun, would be fab to have some tips!

  12. She's so gorgeous! I'm not a mother (yet), though I really think you shouldn't worry about becoming a 'mummy blogger'. I enjoy reading your life updates, which just so happen to include being a mother, which just adds to the awesomeness of your content. JMHO :)

Also, I was wondering if you would like to be a guest on the Popbasic 'Sunday Brunch' series? If you're interested, we can chat via email~ madeline at popbasic.com Mx
