long day's journey into night...

Had a fantastic day today! V and I and my younger brother drove to Walsh Bay, to the Sydney Theatre, to see Eugene O'Neill's play Long Day's Journey Into Night. It was directed by Andrew Upton, and starred William Hurt, Robyn Nvein, Todd Van Vors, Luke Mullins and Emily Russell.

We all agreed it was one of the best productions we had seen in a long time (for me, only topped by the hauntingly bizarre B Sharp production of The Eskimo Calling). It was utterly heartbreaking and poignant, and I cried! Numerous times! It was bleak and dark but so beautifully directed and absolutely magnificently acted.

I was incredibly impressed by the skill and professionalism of the cast, especially William Hurt and Robyn Nevin, highlighted when the fire alarm went off in an incredibly tense and emotional scene, around 15 minutes before half-time. The audience were evacuated (false alarm!), and when we came back in and took our seats, the two of them took a moment to centre themselves and get back into the moment, and then picked up where they had left off! Stunning stuff. I highly recommend this one!

We arrived in Walsh Bay around 12pm, and headed over to the Guylian Cafe in the Rocks for lunch...

I am not usually a mocha fan - I like coffee OR chocolate, not the two combined. But the Guylian chocolate special (coffee and chocolate topped with whipped cream) totally changed my stance on that. It was fantastic! Loved the truffle that came on the side too

V had a smoked turkey and bouquet des moines baguette...

OMG best salad ever! Blue cheese, nashi pear, rocket, dates and pecans topped with balsamic vinaigrette. We really, really wanted to get cake after our lunches, but were far too full - next time!

Emmaleeha dress
Tony Bianco ballet flats
Sportsgirl tote
Tiffany&Co tag necklace and Kerry Rocks key pendant

Shhh! Play's about to start...

Pre-ordering your interval glass of champers is the only way to go - no queueing, yay!

Hope you are all having a lovely weekend!
xoxo

  1. Sounds like a lovely day! I have never seen a play directed by Andrew Upton but my girl crush is Cate Blanchett. You have gorgeous skin.
And once again, I know it was at least 10 degrees warmer where you were than in Melbourne - I was wearing merino and you had short sleeves on!

  3. Sounds like fun, i'd have loved to see that play. The STC chooses far better plays than the state theatre here in SA, and they use some amazing actors. I really wanted to see Uncle Vanya in Sydney- so many good actors in it, but it's sold out already :( Also, love the Emmaleeha dress x

  4. Awww thanks so much Carly! I have a massive crush on Cate Blanchett also, I aspire to look as amazing at 41 as she does. It was unseasonally warm in Sydney yesterday, I took a coat with me but didn't need it! Rest assured, its freezing cold, windy and raining in Wollongong tonight :D

Candy, it was brilliant! We actually have tickets to see Uncle Vanya - we missed out on the first lot but they opened up another couple of shows and we got tickets, eeee! So freaking excited!

  7. I love mocha! :( I don't think we can be friends now, Cate. But, that's really only because I don't like coffee, and drinking mochas was the only way I could partake in work coffee breaks. Until I realised that noone would mind if I had a hot chocolate or tea on my coffee break...
